According to the official announcement issued by the Ministry of Finance, General Administration of Customs, and State Taxation Administration of China, battery consumption tax policies will be adjusted starting from September 1, 2026.
The official policy announcement specifies that:
- Lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and primary Lithium Batteries will be subject to a2% consumption tax from September 1, 2026;
- From September 1, 2027, the consumption tax rate for these battery products will increase to 4%;
- Certain products, including sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, fuel cells, and related materials, will remain temporarily exempt according to current regulations.
